Ein roter Felsen in der Nordsee – das ist Helgoland.

Helgoland hat eine bewegte Geschichte hinter sich. Mit ihrer Lage in der Deutschen Bucht war die Insel ein begehrter Stützpunkt, den es zu besitzen oder zu vernichten galt. Aber die Geschichte beginnt schon früher in der Mittelsteinzeit:

Für die Schifffahrt ist Helgoland Abrahams Schoß in der Deutschen Bucht. Der Bundesschutzhafen kann zu jeder Zeit angelaufen werden.

Obwohl Helgoland klein ist, hat die Insel viele Gesichter und ist ein Naturparadies. Sie besteht aus zwei Teilen, der Hauptinsel und der Düne.

Die Hauptinsel besteht aus dem Unter-, Mittel- und Oberland. Im Unter- und Mittelland gibt es viele Geschäfte, Cafés, Kneipen und Gaststätten. Erreicht man das Oberland, kommt man nach kurzer Shoppingmeile in die Natur.

A red rock in the North Sea – that’s Heligoland. Situated in German Bay it was an important military base in WWII, but its history goes back to the middle of the stone age: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heligoland

For navigation Heligoland is like the bosom of family: a place to find protection against stormy weather; it’s possible to experience any weather condition when sailing into Heligoland harbour!

Although the island is small, Heligoland has lot’s to offer and is a paradise for nature. Heligoland consists of two islands, the main island and the “Düne” (dune).

The main island is commonly divided into the “Lower Land”, “Middle Land” and “Upper Land”. Lower and Middle Land is many inhabited by shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants: however, on their door step is Upper Land from where you can explore and experience the beautiful natural side of Heligoland.

Four countries sailing trip

We spent four weeks on our „Four countries sailing trip“: http://ullispics.jimdo.com/segeln/ostsee/vierländertörn 

We started in Hooksiel near Wilhelmshaven and, thanks to wind and waves, we reached river Elbe and – after passing the lock Brunsbüttel – the KIEL-CANAL in one day.

According to circumstances (wind and waves) it is necessary to  stop in Cuxhaven or it could be reasonable to make the detour round Helgoland to have good conditions to sail into the river Elbe.

Passing the KIEL-CANAL takes a day, because sportboats may only drive in daylight.  KIEL-CANAL is 98,637 km long.

First destination after KIEL-CANAL was Kiel-Schilksee, known from the Olympic Games in 1972.  Without difficulty you can plan Kiel sightseeing. A bus starts near the harbour.

Next destination after Kiel-Schilksee was Orth on the island of Fehmarn. The little harbour is in the middle of the village and you can reach everything by foot. Alternative to Orth you can touch at Lemkenhafen. There you will also reach the important attractions by foot.

Leaving Fehmarn was sailing to Denmark: Klintholm. A nice marina and beside a romantically coasting fishing port.

On the way Klintholm to Ystad you can admire the white chalk cliffs.

Ystad is a fantastic old Free Hanseatic city. The marina is comfortable and in the ferry harbour and the commercial harbour is a lot of traffic. That vitalizes this region and a shopping tour in the city is a great experience. If you want to, you can walk on Wallanders marks:  http://www.inspector-wallander.org/guide/sweden/

90 miles from Ystad to Swinemünde. In a branch of river Swine there are two marinas: One for boats with low draught and at the end of the branch a bigger one for the others, modern and comfortable. Swinemünde city is not far away. You can walk and enjoy the very vital promenade.

Next destination was Stralsund. This is a very nice trip because you’ll see parts of the Boddengewässer. Stralsund also is a fantastic old Free Hanseatic city.

After Stralsund we reached Warnemünde. Although there’s a big modern marina, it’s romatically to find a place in the branch of the river Warne, called “Der alte Strom”.

Following the old fantastic free Hanseatic cities means now to visit also Wismar.  The architecture reminds to Stralsund: www.wismar.de

From Wismar we started to visit Fehmarn again to be in a good position to sail to Kiel-Holtenau. Back in the KIEL-Canal we had our break in Brunsbüttel and started the last stage back in the North Sea.

Four weeks: The  sands are running out with a lot of unforgettable impressions.

Vierländertörn

Für den „Vierländertörn“ http://ullispics.jimdo.com/segeln/ostsee/vierländertörn haben wir uns insgesamt vier Wochen Zeit gelassen.

Gestartet sind wir in Hooksiel bei Wilhelmshaven und haben es, dank Wind und Welle, an einem Tag geschafft, in die Elbe rein und zum Nordostsee-Kanal (NOK)  durch die Schleuse nach Brunsbüttel zu gelangen.

Je nach Wind- und Wetterlage kann es sein, dass man einen Stopp in Cuxhaven machen muss, oder dass sich der Umweg über Helgoland sogar lohnt.

Für die Durchfahrt durch den NOK muss man sich einen Tag Zeit nehmen, da Sportboote ihn nur bei Tageslicht passieren dürfen. Der Kanal ist 98,637 km lang.

Unsere erste Station nach dem NOK war Kiel-Schilksee, bekannt geworden durch die Olympischen Spiele 1972. Will man sich Kiel anschauen, so ist dies mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln (Bus) vom Hafen aus gut möglich.

Von Kiel-Schilksee ging’s weiter nach Orth auf Fehmarn. Der Hafen ist direkt im Ort, so dass man alle Annehmlichkeiten gleich neben dem Liegeplatz hat. Alternativ kann auch der Hafen Lemkenhafen angelaufen werden. Auch dort ist alles Wichtige fußläufig erreichbar.

Von Fehmarn ging es weiter nach Dänemark: Klintholm. Ein netter beschaulicher Yachthafen und nebenan ein Fischerhafen.

Auf dem Weg von Klintholm nach Ystad kann man weiße Kreidefelsen bewundern, wie man sie von Rügen kennt.

Ystad ist eine herrliche ehemalige Hansestadt. Der Yachthafen ist komfortabel und im Handels- und Fährhafen ist immer etwas los. Hier pulsiert das Leben und es macht Spaß, durch die Stadt von Kommissar Wallander zu bummeln: http://www.inspector-wallander.org/guide/sweden/

Ein kräftiger Schlag – 90 Meilen – führt von Ystad nach Swinemünde in Polen. In einem Seitenarm der Swine finden sich gleich zwei Yachhäfen: Ein kleiner für Boote mit geringem Tiefgang und am Ende des Arms ein größerer und sehr moderner. Nach Swinemünde ist es nicht weit und ein Besuch des Städtchens ist unbedingt empfehlenswert.

Von Swinemünde aus sind wir nach Stralsund aufgebrochen. Das ist ein besonders schöner Schlag, weil man dabei auch einen Teil der Boddengewässer kennenlernt. Stralsund ist eine alte Hansestadt, die sehr sehenswert ist.

Die nächste Station war Warnemünde. Obwohl es hier eine neue moderne Marina gibt, kann es sehr reizvoll sein, direkt am Kai des Ortes im „Alten Strom“ zu liegen.

Wenn man auf den Spuren alter Hansestädte ist, dann darf man Wismar auf diesem Törn auch nicht auslassen. Architektonisch ähnelt es  Stralsund sehr: http://www.wismar.de/

Von hier aus bot es sich natürlich an, Fehmarn noch einmal zu besuchen, um dann wiederum über Kiel in den NOK zurück in die Nordsee zurückzukehren.

So geht eine schöne Zeit mit vielen Eindrücken zu Ende.
