Die Deutsche Bucht II ♥♥♥ German Bight II

In meinem Beitrag „Die Deutsche Bucht“ habe ich schon Einiges über diesen Teil der Nordsee erzählt.
Ich schätze und respektiere die Gegend als Segelrevier sehr. Sie ist eine navigatorische Herausforderung. Man stelle sich vor, welche Wassermassen aus dem Englischen Kanal und von Norden her kommend hier zusammenprallen und am Festland ihre Grenzen finden.
Ungeahnte Naturkräfte, Wattenmeer, Ebbe und Flut, Wind und Wellen, starke Strömungen und natürlich die Voraussetzungen des Segelbootes müssen berücksichtigt werden, wenn man zwischen den Inseln segeln möchte. Je mehr Tiefgang ein Segelboot hat, desto kürzer werden die Zeitfenster, um über flache Sände zu kommen.
Kurz: Dies ist kein Revier für Anfänger und wer dort segeln möchte, sollte über entsprechende Erfahrungen verfügen oder sich mit erfahrenen Leuten zusammentun.

With my post „German Bight“ I’ve already told you some about this area.
As a very interesting sailing area I appreciate and respect the region very much. Every cruise is a navigational challenge. Imagine the watermasses coming from the Channel and from the North bouncing here to the mainland. Unexpected natural forces, tideland, ebb and flow, wind and waves, strong currents and – of course – the condition of the boat has to be observed. The more draught of a boat the less time to cross the shoals. To put it briefly: It’s not a sailing area for beginners. You should have a lot of hands-on experience or you should sail with people who have.

Deutsche Bucht – German Bight

Heute möchte ich damit beginnen, ein paar der Inseln dieser wundervollen Gegend vorzustellen. Die erste soll Sylt sein.

Sylt gehört zu den Nordfriesischen Inseln und ist deren größte. Sie erstreckt sich mit ihren 38 km Länge entlang der Nordseeküste vor Schleswig-Holstein (Deutschland) und Dänemark. Aufgrund ihrer Lage hat sie das Problem, bei Sturmfluten stets Land zu verlieren. Deshalb spielt der Küstenschutz für Sylt eine große Rolle. Aber neben der menschlichen Arbeit hält die Natur dafür natürlich auch eine Lösung vor: Die Nordfriesischen Außensände. Sie haben wellenbrechende Wirkungen und schützen ihnen nachgelagerte Inseln und Halligen.

Kommt man von Seeseite nach Sylt, bieten sich zwei Häfen an: Hörnum im Süden und List im Norden der Insel.

Today I’ll start to present several of the islands of this wonderful region. The first one should be Sylt.
Sylt belongs to the North Frisian Islands and is the largest of them. With a length of 38 km it’s the northernmost island of the group along the German and Danish coast. Because of its location storms are always a problem: The Island loses more and more shore. So coastal protection is a great act of defiance. And beside human handcraft there is also a natural solution: The North Frisian Barrier Island, shoals as breakwaters and protection for the further east islands and the Halligen.

If you come from Seaside to Sylt, there are two ports: Hörnum in the south and List in the north of the island.

Weiße Strände, Dünenlandschaften und das Kliff kennzeichnen Sylt. Eine ideale Badeinsel, da sie sowohl eine Wattenmeerseite als auch eine Seeseite hat, die immer Wasser anbietet.
Mit den Gemeinden Westerland, Kampen und Wennigstedt bietet Sylt seinen Besuchern interessante und lebendige Kurorte.

White beaches, dunes and the cliff are typical for Sylt. With a wadden seaside and a seaside Sylt is a wonderful place for people who love to bath. The little spas Westerland, Kampen and Wennigstedt are lively little towns.

Die nördlichste Fischbude Deutschlands findet man in List. Tatsächlich hat der Inhaber mit einer kleinen Fischbude angefangen und daraus zwischenzeitlich ein kleines Imperium wachsen lassen. Tagesfrischer Fang ist selbstverständlich. Und weil es vor Sylt Austernbänke gibt, gibt es hier natürlich auch ganz frische Austern.

The „nothernmost fish stand“ was opened in List. As a matter of fact the owner started with a little stand, selling fish in bread rolls. Today the little stand is a little empire. Of course: Dayfresh fish and oysters.
