Hamburg – eine Stadt zum Wohlfühlen!

Der Name der Stadt reflektiert eine große historische Vergangenheit und Bedeutung.

Die älteste urkundliche Erwähnung stammt aus dem 7. Jahrhundert. Im Jahr 1241 wurde Hamburg, zusammen mit Lübeck, einer der Gründerorte der Hanse. –

Heute ist Hamburg mit 1,7 Mio. Einwohnern die zweitgrößte Stadt Deutschlands und neuntgrößte der Europäischen Union.

Der Hamburger Hafen ist der größte Seehafen Deutschlands.

Alles zu beschreiben, was Hamburg bietet, würde einen Blog-Artikel sprengen. Deshalb hier nun ein paar Impressionen:

Hamburg – a city to feel good!

The name reflects Hamburg’s history and importance. The eldest documented mention comes from the 7. century.

Its trade allience with Lübeck in 1241 marks the origin and core of the powerful Hanseatic League of trading cities.-

The city is home of more than 1,7 million people and the second largest city of Germany, the ninth largest city of the European Union.

The port of Hamburg is the biggest of Germany, the second largest port of Europe and the tenth largest worldwide.

Hamburg is so much multifaceted. It’s impossible to describe everything in a blog article. So here are some impressions:

Der Leuchtturm „Roter Sand“ ♥ ♥ ♥ Lighthouse „Roter Sand“

Für mich ist der schönste aller Leuchttürme der Leuchtturm „Roter Sand“. Fast majestätisch und schlossartig anmutend steht er auf Position 53°51´18 N / 08°04´54 E in der Nordsee und vermittelt auch heute noch ein Gefühl von Sicherheit.

Er ist nicht mehr in Betrieb.

Ende der fünfziger Jahre wurde entschieden, dass eine Modernisierung mit Radartechnik beim „Roter Sand“ nicht durchführbar sei. Mit dem Bau des Leuchtturms „Alte Weser“ wurde begonnen und 1964, als der „Alte Weser“ seinen Dienst aufnahm, wurde das Feuer des „Roter Sand“ gelöscht. „Roter Sand“ sollte der Nordsee überlassen werden – ein trauriges Schicksal.

Glücklicherweise war das Interesse der breiten Öffentlichkeit am „Roter Sand“ aber so groß, dass der Leuchtturm saniert und durch das Land Niedersachsen unter Denkmalschutz gestellt wurde. Seit 1999 können Touristen den Turm nicht nur besuchen sondern auch sogar darauf übernachten.

Lighthouse „Roter Sand“

 In my humble opinion the lighthouse “Roter Sand” is the most beautiful. A bit like a kingly residence towers it over the North Sea: Position 53°51´18 N / 08°04´54 E.

And whenever I see it, I still feel safe although the lighthouse doesn’t work.

No, “Roter Sand” isn’t operating. At the end of the fifties one decided not to modernize the lighthouse with radar engineering. They build the “Alte Weser” and in 1964 when “Alte Weser” started they turned off the fire and gave the “Roter Sand” to the Sea – cruel fate.

Fortunatly lots of people fighted to conserve the lighthouse “Roter Sand”. So it was renovated and got the status of a memorial. Since 1999 tourists can visit the lighthouse and can stay over for a weekend.

Ein roter Felsen in der Nordsee – das ist Helgoland.

Helgoland hat eine bewegte Geschichte hinter sich. Mit ihrer Lage in der Deutschen Bucht war die Insel ein begehrter Stützpunkt, den es zu besitzen oder zu vernichten galt. Aber die Geschichte beginnt schon früher in der Mittelsteinzeit:

Für die Schifffahrt ist Helgoland Abrahams Schoß in der Deutschen Bucht. Der Bundesschutzhafen kann zu jeder Zeit angelaufen werden.

Obwohl Helgoland klein ist, hat die Insel viele Gesichter und ist ein Naturparadies. Sie besteht aus zwei Teilen, der Hauptinsel und der Düne.

Die Hauptinsel besteht aus dem Unter-, Mittel- und Oberland. Im Unter- und Mittelland gibt es viele Geschäfte, Cafés, Kneipen und Gaststätten. Erreicht man das Oberland, kommt man nach kurzer Shoppingmeile in die Natur.

For navigation Heligoland is like the bosom of family: a place to find protection against stormy weather; it’s possible to experience any weather condition when sailing into Heligoland harbour!

Although the island is small, Heligoland has lot’s to offer and is a paradise for nature. Heligoland consists of two islands, the main island and the “Düne” (dune).

The main island is commonly divided into the “Lower Land”, “Middle Land” and “Upper Land”. Lower and Middle Land is many inhabited by shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants: however, on their door step is Upper Land from where you can explore and experience the beautiful natural side of Heligoland.
